It's been very humid this week, so you may have hard times to fall asleep during night. For that kind of night, I would like to recommend you a song called Lover Man by Johnny Griffin to make you feel comfortable enough to fall into a peaceful sleep. And I wanted to listen to this song with a compact sound system but only with JBL speakers. So I built such a system with such a simple thought. Kimiya Miura |

JBL/4311B This is kind of third-generation "4311", the brilliant speaker, and released in 1979 as the monitor speaker adopting the SFG structure for the magnetic circuit of woofer. I picked this up after I looked around in the shop to search perfect speakers for the texture of sweet tone of Johnny Griffin's voice. Unlike any normal bookshelf-type small speakers, this pair of speakers has a woofer and a tweeter reversing their locations with each other. |

|
First when you remove a saran net, you will see the white-colored woofer paper cone right away. Unlike the recent small speakers, this pair of speakers generates comfy sounds well to the front and expresses the space good enough, so you feel as if you were able to see all the instruments in front of you. On the whole the speakers generate the brisk sound of each instrument so you can feel as if you were listening to live music. |

Marantz/CD-94Limited This is a CD player released in 1987, equipped with Philips CDM-1. It seems that they have improved its structure focusing on CD-94. This is a limited-production model with thorough vibration-proof system. |

I picked up this CD player since I wanted to delicately pull out the atmosphere and the texture of acoustic sounds. It's been over 15 years since its release though, I like this so much because of the unique thick tone. This player never hardens the music; on the contrary it reproduces Lover Man so softly. |

SANSUI/AU-D907 This is a brilliant equipment released in 1979 as the first item of 907 lines. At that time, SANSUI, the importer of JBL, was always using JBL speakers for their amps. So the combination with JBL is proven perfect! This is why I picked this amp without question. |
|
|
I knew this amp was perfect! Unlike recent amps, this amp brings out each unique characteristic of music efficiently. Excellent in brisk and thick sound. You can't ask for anything more from this amp that generates all the required sound elements neither too much nor too little for this system. |

Johnny Griffin/Introducing Here is the album that Lover Man is on. Memorable blue-note debut album by Johnny Griffin, the "little giant", from Chicago. With the best rhythm band, at that time, formed by Wynton Kelly, Curly Russell and Max Roach, Griffin's smooth voice sounds awesome. Soon-to-be 28-year-old Griffin looks younger than his actual age and outshines all others. Kelly is backing him up with more like boppish phrases than his usual jumping phrases. Recorded on April 17, 1956 |
