Usually my reports are on speaker friendly to horn sound because I like that sound. But this time I would like to introduce the corn-type speakers whose sound surprised me a lot. Akihabara Store: Tomohiro Kawai |

KEF model 105/3s This pair of speakers can replay the natural deep bass by adopting the KEF original double coupled cavity system enclosure. The simple sound generator in 3-D has been realized in the mid-high-range by completely combining the acoustic gravity of the tweeter and the driver called "UNI-Q driver". 4-way 6-speaker, 4Ω, 93dB, W28.0 x H110.4 x D40.5cm, 42.0kg, Released in 1991 |

The UNI-Q unit is installed onto the metal-like baffle and producing an unique style by sliding it forward a bit from the cabinet. The hole below the unit is a bass reflex port. But with105, it feels like the rich deep bass from the inside woofer comes out naturally. |

Of course the input terminal supports biwiring and comes with the spike. It's also removable. |

I connected this bulb amp "EAR869". EL519 x 2 with PREOUT terminal. |

I picked PHILIPS Mecha CDM12.4 and MARANTZ CD-17D which produces the stable sound with the bit stream "DAC7" for a CD player. |

I wasn't sure first about this bulb amp because the MODEL 105/S3 has 4Ω, but it seemed OK when I listened. As soon as the sound comes out, you will be surprised to hear the big-scaled reproduced sound you cannot even imagine from the size of this speaker. Good with any genre like Jazz, classical music, vocal songs, pop music and you name it. I noticed that the sound changed a great deal when I turned up the grade of the speaker cable while adjusting the setting in many ways. Since the low-range is available pretty well, the sound became a bit solid in a good way with the spike. If you want to maximize the size of this big high-sophisticated speaker, hall-like atmosphere and the space atmosphere, you should not put any stuff around this pair of speakers as much as possible. It's been a while since I found the speaker stirring my love of audio equipments. |
