Hi-Fi Do's Online Newsletter July 17 , 2004 We received many applications to CD prize last week. CD is the latest album of "It's just beginning." by Fumio Karashima Trio. We will continue music CD prize in "Cappucino's Jazz Live Concert Report" in response to many request. The next report will be available in August. The drammer will make performance with daily guest at the same live house for two days in a row. If you want to know who is the drammer, please check the following website: http://www.royal-horse.jp/ Topics in this week: 1."Walking around Akihabara" by Taro Akiba 2.Assembly and Disassembly - SANSUI AU-111 3.Auction in Newsletter 4.Information from Shop Managers 1."Walking around Akihabara" by Taro Akiba I had been listening to the music with LUX 38FD for an hour at my friend's house and I wanted to buy LUX 38FD again because I used it before. I went to Hi-Fi Do. Unfortunately the manager took day off. I asked if there was LUX38FD in their stock. The cleark checked the data by PC and he said, "You have bought LUX 38FD before, haven't you? How about 38F this time? 38F is a rare gear and the sound is more gentle and clear. It is the best to listen to the performance of violin." 38F looked so beatiful cosmetically that it did not seem that it was produced 30 years ago. I tried to listen to the music through it which was connected to TANNOY SUPER RED MONITOR. The sound was very sophisticated. I asked him if it was possible to deliver it immediately. "We are busy for delivery today. If you want, I will deliver it around 9 o'clock after the shop is closed." he said. I appriciated his service and decided to buy it. I prepared to set for 38F when I came home. I was puzzled which speaker to connect and finally I chose JENSEN H222. I had been waiting for delivery of 38F listening to JAZZ through SANSUI TUBE amplifier. As scheduled, Hi-Fi Do staff brought 38F to my house five minutes before nine. It took less than five minutes to connect it to my speaker as prepared. When I turned on switch ,38F reproduced the sound much better with my speaker compared with the sound which I listened to in Hi-Fi Do. connected to it and it made some effect on sound. To be continued. 2.Assembly and Disassembly - SANSUI AU-111 Mr. Kondo, who is the oldest member of Jolly club, requested SASUI AU-111 to "Assembly and Disassemly" this week. The followings are his message . AU-111 is called Sansui's masterpiece in tube technology. I want young audiophiles to show AU-111 and understand that such excellent audio amplifier was produced in those days. In fact I had used it for long time and I was impressed by the sophisticated sound with hight quality and great technology. The transistor started to be used to amplifier in Japan after 1962. The merit of transistor was compact size, low heating, heatless and permanent lifetime. Transistor made an epoch in audio technology in 1960. Sansui, which was a famous transistor manufacturer, released AU-111 as the last model of integrated tube amplifier in 1965 (The price at release was JPY 65,000). The feature of AU-111 was Sansui's first black front panel and heavy weight of 24.5 kg with caster. It was said that cool design of black face and metallic knob contributed to make Sansui one of the most popular audio manufacturer afterward. In 1960 Sansui became representative of JBL and JBL speakers were used for sound combination with AU-111. AU-111 made great hit and according to an article of audio magazine large order for AU-111 caused short supply. I hastened to obtain AU-111 at that time. AU-111 was superior to other amplifiers in improved S/N and sophisticated tone and it had high evaluation by excellent design with 45W x 45W power. Sansui was famous as transformer manufacturer and the output stage consisted of fixed bias 6L6GC AB1 Push-Pull by Sasui's own output transformer. The control amp section consists of the cathode follower first stage followed by three amplification stage to make low noise and sound distortion. Sansui released AU-111 vintage (JPY 440,000) as only 200 units limited edition in 1999 and they were all sold out immediately. AU-111G Vintage (JPY 480,000) was reproduced as 21 century model in March, 2001. The point for "Assembly and Disassembly" is as below: 1)All tubes (6L6GC/12AX7) 2)Circuit board 3)Power Transformer 4)Caster 5)SP terminal/Connector/Plug terminal Assembly and Disassembly are shown below : http://www.hifido.co.jp/merumaga/040716/kaitaie.html 3.
