1. Cappuccino's Jazz Live Concert Report
On August 12 and 13 I enjoyed Live concert by Masahiko Osaka, who is called an elite drammer in Jazz
Jazz session by Masahiko Osaka(Ds), Kiyoshi Takeshita(P), Ryousui Kosasa(B) and Jyunko
Ochi(Vo) was held in Royal Horse in Osaka.
First, the performance by Osaka, Takeshita and Kozasa started. Piano, base and drums
played solo by turns. It was a fantastic performance in wide range of sound and well-balanced.
Takeshita instantly selected the pieces to play on the stage
and other members were not informed in advance which pieces to play next.
It made thrilling atomosphere.
Jyunko Ochi appeared on the stage.
Her voice was husky and she sang a song slowly and gently.
The first song was "Street Life" and she sang it jazzily.
Osaka played cymbal softly to make sound effects when she sang "Flamingo" gesturing fluttering.
"Summer time" is a lullaby and it was arranged Bossa Nova taste by a hand drum.
The last piece in the first stage was "Fever" and Ochi sang it cool.
The second piece in the second stage was "It's One of Those Things" which was
up-tempo music starting from hi-hat.
All gave excellent performances and the group worked quite well together.
Ochi sang "Day by Day", "Bye Bye Black Bird", and "Candy". Then "Shape of My Heart" by Sting was performed.
The last song was "It's too late" by Carol King. An encore piece was "Lover Comes Back to Me".
Ochi was a great vocalist and entertainer charmed audience and Osaka, Takeshita,
and Kosasa supported her by fantastic performance.
I was so moved to watch their excellent concert.
2. CD Present
CD present will be offered every week. We will choose weekly theme
among various kinds of music and introduce interesting CD to our readers.
The theme in this week is female vocalist.
Jyunko Ochi was introduced in "Cappuccino's Jazz Live Concert Report #6".
Mr. Kenji Kondo in Kyoto chose "but beautiful" by Keiko Lee
(Sony Jazz SICP-584 JPY1,575 2004/5/25 released).
This is Keiko's latest mini album with 4 songs.
Recently her style is away from Jazz but she performs orthodox standard jazz in this album.
It is excited for Jazz fan that Keiko made her performance with Hunk Jones.
It is excellent recording and piano trio by Hunk Jones is well-balanced with her.
Keiko's unique husky voice is very effective and rhythm balance by base is great.
Mr. Kondo got inflammation of the middle ear last week and went to see an otolaryngology.
Following is an advice for taking care of ears by Mr. Kondo:
I often listen to my favorite Jazz music at the large volume
and I wondered if I had defective hearing. So,
I went to see a otolaryngology and had hearing test.
I was relieved to know that the condition of my ears were ok. However,
the doctor said that the ear was declining same as skin or physical strength with age.
In order to keep ears in good condition, it is important to avoid large volume of sound.
Protect your ears with ears pad from unpleasant sound and keep good environment for ears.
Recently many young people suffer from defective hearing caused by head phones.
Turn down the volume and reduce the time for listening by headphones to prevent defective hearing.
You need to take medical check periodically
because it is difficult for people to notice the symptom of defective hearing .
Ears are one of important parts in our body to listen to the music,
the talk with friends and get valuable information.
I realize that I should take care of my ear regularly.
4.Walking around Akihabara by Taro Akiba
I went to Akihabara and got 0.8 and 1.0 non-twisted cable.
I looked around several shops to compare the price
and found most of them cost around JPY2,000 per meter.
Therefore, I decided to buy the cable which looked similar to Belden 0.8 type.
The price was cheaper than I expected , so I bought each of 0.8 and 1.0 cables
(red and white) in 20 meters.
I hastened home and started to install an amplifier.
I turned on the switch of soldering iron
and I replaced several cables of SANSUI amplifier to the cables which I bought in Akihabara.
There was no different in sound by cables.
I turned chassis and put Sansui's amplifier aside in order to check the wiring,
then I started to install the parts.
I concentrated to assemble it for 5 hours and it was almost completed.
I was getting excited to listen to the sound.
I often checked if the wiring was same as Sansui's amplifier.
Then, I installed tubes and I felt anxiety that it worked.
Finally I could hear the sound from my speaker. I attained success.
To be continued
