In "Cappuccino's recommendation" we had an interview with Mr. Mikami who is the musician of the oldest woodwind instrument "Didjeridu" which Australian Aborigine uses their ceremony. He used to be away from music but now he lives with music instruments. His activity is based on the concept that people can enjoy music as one of their life. He makes speech, performance and has workshop at schools. |

"Didjeridu" is sesitive instrument for dryness and it should be always checked by hygrometer. Original pattern on the instrument tells who paints it. "Didjeridu" is the oldest woodwind instrument which Australian Aborigine uses their ceremony. Mr. Mikami has lecture to how to make it as follows: |
First , select the material of bamboo. Then, hollow out it and shave the knot by iron stick. Soften the beeswax by burner and stretch it along with mouthpiece . Finally check the tune and adjust it by the length of bamboo. |
Open the bamboo by hammer. This feels something like breaking the rice cracker. |
Shave the knot inside of the bamboo by jagged iron stick. |
Soften the beeswax by burner. Quick action is required , otherwise it becomes hard immediately. |
It is difficult to get the technique to play Didjerdu. |
Paint the pattern by burner to give a finish to the process. |
He started his activity of playing Didjerdu as musician. He was invited various festival and made performance. He started solo acitivity and established Avalon Spiral. He released the first solo CD album "Wugularr Forest" from Music Island in 2002. The following is the website of Mr. Mikami : Avalon Spiral by Kenji Mikami http://www.avalonspiral.com |
