Cappuccino's little push, The 10th Report "Memories of summer", Chapter The meeting, on September 16, 2005
"Memories of summer" followed by the last episode. It is "Chapter The meeting" this time. I don't mean to be too personal, but I had the most tiring summer vacation ever in my entire life. My daughter in the first grade of junior high-school has been in the basketball club for five months. She practices in the morning, after school and on weekend for extracurricular activities. I am impressed by the enthusiasm of a teacher in charge. But I was worried about her a lot during summer vacation as being her mother. I had such an awful summer vacation. It's not like I am saying "Oh my goodness! I must relieve stress!" though.

I went to see the proprietress and master of a Jazz bar called "Wishy- Washy" in Nishi-Umeda on Friday, August 26. It's been a long time since the last time I saw them. I was introduced by a certain person to this couple several years ago in Takatsuki Jazz Street. They have been happily-married and opened the bar four years ago since they loved Jazz music so much. The "Newspaper" the proprietress has been editing is very interesting. I can get to know the long history of their love for Jazz from the contents. I am like "Indeed, I agree blah blah." She makes a comment as "Obahito" from her daily life. This is so interesting. It means so called "a comment of Obachan(middle-aged woman)" in Kansai.

The master is quiet and makes people comfortable with his gentle smile. The proprietress is very caring for people but gives a sharp opinion when asked. So people can forget what they have been worried about without noticing. They are holding "Blind fold test competition" about three times a year. The proprietress seems to plan all the questions mostly by herself. They used to open the bar in daytime before, but now they only open at night because they says opening all day ling is physically very tiring. Even at night, non-alcohol beverages are available. Why don't you visit there? This bar is very comfortable to drop by after work for a single woman or a group of women. Of course, men are also welcome. There are various kinds of alcohol. After Wishy-Washy, I went to "Jazz On Top" on the same street. That night I saw a live show performed by Mr. Masahiko Sato(p) and Ms. Akiko Uesugi (Vo) from Tokyo. It was my first time to meet these two performers. I was also looking forward to seeing the MB members of Jazz store "Mimura" who were also supposed to visit here. Other than that, I was supposed to meet up my friends and Mr. M from the Takatsuki Jazz Street executive committee. This was my second to visit "Jazz On Top". The first time was for a live by Ms. Akiko Tsuruga the organist. She went on a home-coming tour across Japan in September. I think she has gone back to NY already and been doing good there. Anyway when I went downstairs to get into the bar, my friends and Mr. M were already there. While I was talking to them, I saw the MB members from Mimura and went to greet them. I saw a woman looking like Ms. Uesugi the main character of today. In the first part, Mr. Masahiko Sato, who is a master of Ms. Uesugi, came on stage for the piano accompaniment. It was my first time to listen to his performance although I heard that he is a good pianist. Well I was very impressed. He is not that big in figure (excuse me) but his touch on piano keys is very powerful. After he played three piano solos, Ms. Akiko Uesugi came on stage. She looked so attractive in red and black dress associated with flamenco in Spain and looked like a mermaid.

I thought she was a very cute girl at the MB but she turned into a sexy woman. She sang several songs from her second album at this live. I was impressed by her passionate way of singing in her thick, steady and powerful vocal sound. She seems a hard worker as she started studying Portuguese immediately after her master told her to study it if she wants to sing Brazilian songs. I felt the live show was a collaboration of the two performers rather than Mr. Sato's accompaniment. Both performers were full of spirit and their performances were lyrical. I felt as if I were seeing a musical show. I liked "You've Changed", "Oceano" and "Valencia Spain" especially. They seem to aspire to MC in the Yoshimoto Kogyo way. But they still need more training, speaking from the point of view of an Obachan from Osaka. Please learn Osaka dialect first! :-).

Mimura grandpa showed up at the intervals of first and second parts. I was introduced to Ms. Hiromi Shimizu the house vocalist of "Jazz On Top" by him. It was my first time to talk to her so close. She is very charming. Afterwards, I greeted Mr. Sato and Ms. Uesugi. Ms. Uesugi was a cheerful and friendly girl. Although I imagined that Mr. Sato would be a difficult person, he offered me a handshake saying "Are you Mr. Cappuccino? I have been reading Mimura MB. You are the person as I imagined exactly." He had a warm hand. I was surprised to see his very friendly aspect. I was really grateful and happy because a worldwide well-known person treated a person like me so nice.

In the interest of time, I had to leave before encores though, they sang "Kokoro"(Mind) from the second album according to the MB members. I hope Ms. Akiko Uesugi refines her skill more and more to succeed big. And I hope you all support her all the way. Well, I was very happy that I could meet a lot of people that night. I went back home thinking "Good may the match is in all our lives!" And my stress was blown away without noticing. I finish off "Memories of summer" with interpersonal encounters this year. Well I hope to see you again! http://www.mmjp.or.jp/m_satoh http://www.mmjp.or.jp/a_buchi/
