Hello, this is Natsume who came back from Osaka, where I had to get some acoustic work done, after dropping by Glico in Shinsaibashi on my way back instead of Hi Fi Do Nihonbashi Store. We've got good stuffs in here!! |

Here came the first ever DRAWMAR DS201!! Not DIATONE. You would be like "Why on earth did this item come into Hi Fi Do?" But anyway it's worth knowing how it works. |

What it does is ... for instance, drums. For recording, we need to set up about 10 microphones normally from the biggest bass drum to cymbals. And you think that a microphone near the bass drum picks up only the drum sounds? Well I'm telling you, it's not that simple. The microphone will also pick up sounds from other drums behind the bass drum. Then when several microphones pick up sounds from everywhere, the phase gets all messed up and the sound image becomes so blur. And this is not a good thing at all, so this saves such a situation when you don't want the microphone to pick up sounds from other than bass drum. It is called GATE just as it says here. It opens and closes the sound inlet like a gate. It's like when the input signal goes over the THRESHOLD point, it opens the GATE after specified seconds of ATTACK time and closes the GATE while taking DELAY time after opening for a HOLD time. You got it? |

And then about KEY I mentioned at the beginning. This is... for instance, snare drum. Usually microphones are supposed to pick up from above though, some pick up the snare below oftentimes. However since the microphone below is near the bass drum, the GATE opens due to the bass drum volume. So KEY LISTEN for such times. The GATE below will open when the sound above comes out by inputting the sounds picked up from above into KEY INPUT on the open GATE below. It has wide application, like you can turn up the bass only when the bass drum sounds or turn down BGM when some MC starts talking. You name it. You can do whatever you want. It is a convenient machine. It costs 30,000 to 40,000 yen at second hand. Please contact Natsume for more information. |
