CD recommended by Mr. KondoAnklet /Yasuko Agawa Yasuko Agawa(vo), Big Band & Full Strings Recorded June 2004, CRCP-40093 I have some her previous albums. I was fascinated again by her vocal when I listened to her latest album after an interval of three years. |

She has had a good reputation as a vocalist before. Her long career enables her to pronounce in details precisely and sing with delicate sense. Only the first number "IT NEVER ENTERED MY MIND" can give me satisfaction which indicates this is a great album. Her heart-warming voice and eternal gorgeous love songs remind us the good old days and make us comfortable. The combination of lively big band and healing Strings support her excellently. The swingy sound with high quality makes us feel like dancing immediately. |
Sarah Vaughan/ Sarah Vaughan with Clifford BrownSarah Vaughan(vo), Clifford Brown(tp), Harbie Mann(fl), Paul Quinichette(ts), Jimmy Jones(p), Joe Benjamin(b), Roy Hayne(ds), Ernic Wilkins(arr, cond) '54.12.26,'59.12.18 NY Clifford Brown died in trafiice accident on the way to Chicago a year after releasing this album . Great combination of Sarah Baughan and Cliffor Brown's makes it an excellent album. |

Sarah's smooth voice and scat harmonize well with other musicians in "Lullaby of Birdland". My favorite part is the phrase beginning with " And there is a weepy old willow?" followed by scat after brush solo of drums. She performs gently ballad "April In Paris" by charming husky voice with only piano . I would listen to her matured voice at lounge if she was alive. The piano tune is so gentle and beautiful that it makes me feel to have sunlight lying on the grass on Indian summer. Solo performance by Horn and mute by Clifford Brown are so cool. "He is My Guy" is swingy and lively number with medium tempo. Long solo performance by brass instruments is fascinating. "It is Crazy" is also great number. Solo play by accompanists for Sarah is fantastic. |
