 Hibari Misora/Fascination

Hi-Fi Do picked up CD by "Hibari Misora" as a present for Father's Day. She is not only a talented singer but a real entertainer in Japan. CD Jacket of "HIBARI sings/Fascination " recalls "Roman Holiday" by Audrey Hepburn. Hibari's fasion, makeup, tiara are similar to Audrey's style in "Roman Holiday". This movie was released in 1953 and she got Academy Award in 1954. I assumed that Hibari might be conscious of Audrey.

The songs in this album was recorded when Hibari was 18,19,23,27 and 28 years old . It is interesting that you can tell the different voice by her age. There are wide variety numbers from Jazz to world famous songs. She sings "Fascination" of Nat King Cole "Stardust Love" "Love is a many- splendored thing" elegantly. I am surprised that her English pronunciation was so good than I expected. There is impressive scat in "Take the 'A' Train". Most of songs are familiar numbers like ""Ave maria" "Core ‘ngrato" "Torna a surriento". My husband has no sense of Jazz, but he is fascinated with Hibari's voice. Hibari is eternally great singer like a phoenix.

Shintarou Katsu was a great movie star in Japan. He was famous for an actor but he released several records. "Evening Ballades" is one of cultic collection among 35 famous album CD released from Tokuma Japan. This jacket has cultic design which makes me imagine grilled sirloin or kalbi. Anyway, I'm going to introduce "Evening Ballades" by Shintaro Katsu.

Shintaro Katsu seemed a scary man. However, I found surprisingly that his voice was soft. There are famous songs in this album, "Summer Time", "Unchain my heart" "Moon River" etc.
I think he looks like Elvis. Elvis's song "I Can't Stop Loving You" is included in this album. I recommend this album not only father , but mother
