CD recommended by Ms. Cappuccino Summer Knows / The New Sound Quartet Featuring Joe Locke and Geoffrey Keezer Joe Locke(vib), Geoffrey Keezer(p), Ed Howard(b), Terreon Gully(ds) Recorded at Avatar Studio, NY On March 22,2004 "Tulipa" starts with heavy drums and piano and these tone harmonize with vibraphone by Joe softly. Piano tune sounds so soft. Cymbal by Terion and deep piano by Geoffrey make the incredible development of"Dear Old Stockholm". Up-tempo performance is unexpected and great. I am fascinated with the sophisticated tone by Joe Locke and his excellent mallets performance. |

Bass by Edd and drums by Terion make lively performance. Passionate piano solo leads the climax with each instruments. I would like to listen to it at live concert. They make a well-balanced selection for music, original and traditional ones. "The King" is cool with tight drums performance. I like the performance"Come Rain Or Come Shine" by B.B. King , but I enjoy the swingy performance by Joe. Sensitive vibraphone and piano creates excellent world of the title song of "Summer Knows". Elegant sound in this album will make you relax in hot summer. |

CD recommended by Ms. Trumpeter Nocturnes of JohnField/Susumu Aoyagi Fresh green jacket of this album caught my eyes and I bought this CD. I thought the melody of nocturne may go with the night filled by shining star or drizzling day. That's why it is called "Nocture". "Nocturne" reminds you of "Chopin", but the original composer of "Nocturne" is John Field. He was born into a musical family in Ireland ,1782 and he was famous for his great talent of music. He entered an apprenticeship with Clementi and traveled with him around European countries. He stayed in Russia after Clementi's departure and he was embraced by the upper echelons of Russian society for his elegant performance. However, he got ill by addicting to alcohol his later years. He composed 20 nocturnes as a great composer. |

High technique is not required to play his music. He featured simple but beautiful piano tune and highlighted the potentiality of piano. If you had learned piano, you want to play his work. Susumu Aoyagi, who is a pianist, started to play the piano at the age of five and gave the first piano solo recital. He had such a glorious musical career that he made his orchestra debut at the age of nine. According to Susumu, "Chopin is a large river, on the other hand, Field is clear water in the upper river(comment quoted from The Mainichi dated 2005/4/5). He creates the music world of Field with clear and sensitive piano sound. His gentle and quiet piano tune fascinates audience. His album make you relaxed and enjoy listening to it with herb tea. |
