CD recommended by Ms. Cappuccino Yoshitaka Kanno/Introducing Yoshiaki Kanno(g), Shinobu Sato(b), Yoichi Kobayashi(ds), Hiroshi Sugano(as) 2003.2.26 Aobadai Studio , Tokyo I am touched by humanity and love in Charles Chaplin's movies. His movies heals me and makes my heart pure. My desire is to heal and relax people by my guitar like Chaplin. I made hearty performance in this CD. I hope you like it. His comment tells he is a gentle Jazz guitarist. "Smile" is a work of a comic actor "Charles Chaplin". Kanno's guitar performance make you smile when you are depressed. Rod Stuart , a superstar of British Rock musician, who got Grammy prize by standard album sings this song. He is very active singer with matured husky voice. Not only Jazz, but pops singers like Linda Ronstadt, Rita Cooledge, Varry Manilow, Boz Scaggs, Sting sing Jazz. It is a great pleasure that excellent music is created regardless of music genre. Now, let's return to the comment on this CD, "Feelin' Grant" is original number dedicated to a Jazz Guitarist, Grant Green. Kannno was influenced by Grant Green. Collaborative performance by Guitar and drums are so nice. "Shiny Stockings" are swingy and comfortable with good rhythm. I can feel his careful string touch in "Left Alone" . "Blues For Islay" provides a sense of solidarity. "Jumpin' At The Spring Side" is bluesy and swingy music. "Tenderly" features alt saxophone. The last number is "Ornithology" by Charlie Parker, who is a great saxophonist in Jazz. |

"All The Things You Are" has B-3 organ performance by Merbin which imagines tender wind and light. Graddy's drum wrapping Kanno's sweet tone swings with Melvin's organ. Kanno plays guitar surrendering drums and organ. I can imagine their harmonization leading by Graddy. "72nd Street" is Kanno's original blues composed with the image of Count Basie. "Anytime Anywhere" composed for his favorite guitar Super400 is beautiful music of solo guitar performance. Solo and backing performance in "I've Never Been In Love Before" are fantastic. Strength and weakness by his guitar are great. "Jean De Fleur" is Grant Green's number and this is the first performance for him. "Stardust" is excellent with smooth guitar performance , brush work by drums and conservative organ performance. Bass by Melvin is wonderful in "The best Things In Life Are Free". "It Don't Mean A Thing" is a famous number by D. Ellington. I was looking forward to hearing his arrangement because the beginners like me know this song. I was really captivated. I hope you will win to get this CD and enjoy listening to it. |
