CD recommended by Mr. Kondo Dusko Goykovich/A HANDFUL O'SOUL Dusko Goykovich, Tomonao Hara(tp), Rudy Migliardi, Auwi Geyer(tb), Peter King, Aleksandar Jacimovic (ts), Michael Lutzeier(b), Manuel Rocheman(p), Ratko Divjak(ds) Recorded on February 14and 15 at Studio , Serbia and Montenegro MZCE-1065 2005/5/25 Dusko Goykovich is a popular trumpeter called "Pensive Trumpeter" in Japan and his new album is "Big band album" which he organized everything from selecting members and arrangement by himself. He selected musicians from all over the world and Tomonao Hara joins this band as a Japanese trumpeter. I listen to Big band music sometimes. I had a good impression on this album which can provide us only excellent performance of big band.
	This album features Dusko Goykovich's marvelous arrangement especially. He is a popular as a combo player and is experienced in big band. I heard that he acquired arrangement completely at Berkeley. Saxophone and solo trumpet by Tomonao Hara in "Remember Dizzy" and "Jeep's Blues" are excited. The sound is so beautiful that it reminds me of Count Basie . Mute play in ballad also fascinates the listeners.
CD recommended by Mr. Kondo Tropical Jazz Big Band/Mas Tropical Carlos Kanno(per,bgo), Shiro Sasaki(tp), Hideaki Nakaji(tb), Kazuhiko Kondo(as,ss), Mantell Nonoda(ts), Akira Jimbo(ds), Ken Morimura(p, org), Kosmas Kapitza(vo), Sadao Watanabe(as) Recorded 2005, Victor Entertainment VICJ-61277 2005/6/22 "Mas Tropical" is most suitable album for hot summer like this year and it is produced in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of the foundation of Tropical Jazz Big Band. This is the ninth album of them. I admired the passion of Carlos Kanno as a leader and other members who kept their band for 10 years.
	I love lively Latin rhythm. There are a lot of music based on Latin rhythm which make you dance in this album. Sadao Watanabe performs "Orange Express" (covered number)as a special guest and his alto play is so cool. Their flexible ideas fill their album with full of variety. Sadao made an excellent solo performance in "Besame Mucho". Solo drums performance by Akira Jinbo is also excellent. This album is full of passion and energy kept by Tropical Big Band for 10 years. As to sound quality, there are wide range of sound with rich energy. I am impressed by their powerful performance.
