CD recommended by Mr. KonodoJoshua Redman Elastic Band "Momentum" Joshua Redman (sax), Brian Blade(ds), Nicholas Payton(tp), Peter Bernstein(g), Meshell Ndegeocello(b), Stefon Harris(vib) Produced in 2005, Warner Music Group Company WPCR-12031 This is the 10th album of Modern Jazz Man, Joshua Redman . Recently he makes active performance in Elastic Band and this album is performed by this band. He switched to Nonesuch Records and this album is the first album released after his transfer. The title " Momentum" expresses his enthusiasm for this album. |

The first "Sound Check" is fade out immediately and I listen to the second "Sweet Nasty" closely . It has modern speed and comfortable rhythm and I was fascinated with various technique of Elastic Band. Flea of "Red Hot Chili Pepper" and Meshell Ndegeocello(bassist) joined in this album and their play stimulates the sound of Elastic Band. Cover art of "The Crunge" by Red Zeppelin and "Riverwide" of Sheryl Crow are included besides their original numbers. Especially "Lonely Woman" of Ornette Coleman is very impressive. Joshua Redman produces vivid and fresh sound. He is unequaled as a musician to perform large scale of sounds. |
CD recommended by Ms. CappuccinoVan Morrison/What's wrong with this picture? Van Morrison(vo), Foggy Lyttle(g), Matt Holland(fgh),Lee Goodall(horn arrange), David Hayes(b), Liam Bradley(ds), Keith Donald(bcl) Van Morrison was born in Belfast in Northern Ireland in 1945. His father was a collector of Jazz and Blues record. His mother was a professional singer of Jazz and Blues. His parents might give a great influence on him. This album is released by Blue Note/Toshiba. I heard that he does not invite famous Jazz musicians as guest. I envy him for his circumstances in which he had been familiar with Irish Music , Blues, R & B and Jazz since childhood. |

"What's Wrong With This Picture?" He might sing his present situation. It is just like him who is a singer- songwriter to sing such a song. He is a great musician who had done as he wanted and I envy his life style. Horn and organ is very effective in "Whinin Boy Moan". He plays alto saxophone and saxophone is performed effectively in most of tracks. "Evening In June" is a sentimental number for adult including performance of my favorite instrument ,conga drums. "Somerset" is love song. There are 13 numbers in this album. "Stop Drinking" iswritten by Lightnin Hopkins and "Saint James Infirmary" is Jazz traditional number. Others numbers are written by Van Morrison. He sings blues and jazzy songs. "Once In A Blue Moon" and "Little Village" are typical Van Morrison number. Lyrics reveals his torment and worries caused by his fame which I can not imagine. Should I appreciate my ordinary and easy life ? This is a nice album as BGM for driving at night. |
