CD recommended by Mr. KondoEddie Higgins Quartet featuring Scott Hamilton/My Funny Valentine Eddy Higgins(p), Scott Hamilton(ts), Jay Leonhart(b), Joe Ascione(ds) Recorded in NY on September,2004 TKCV-35348 Released 2005/6/22 The manager of my favorite CD shop gave me information about the release of this album at the end of April. I had been looking forward to the released date ,June 22 since then. Both Eddie Higgins and Scott Hamilton are popular musicians and I heard that they would release an excellent album together. This is the third album of their combination released by Venus Records. The isteners who bought previous albums will be definitely fascinated with it. There are many formation of piano trio with tenor saxophone, but this can be the five best album among them. It is a extraordinary excellent album. Two years has passed since their last recording but basically same atmosphere can be developed in this album. |

Drums by Joe Ascione and bass by Jay Leonhart produce smart and sentient sound. But it is strange but it sounds quite different from previous ones . By contrary we can feel their fresh breeze. Maybe both Eddie Higgins and Scott Hamilton did not expect that they could make such perfect session together at first. I think Eddie Higgins is getting brilliant as musician with age. He has a spirit to do his best for his members. Cooperation is necessary to make good achievement. Sound quality of this album is wonderful. Their compatible combination creates mellow jazz world as exemplified in previous album and they receive a good review. Marriage of Higgins's piano and Hamilton's tenor deliver huge jazzy energy. Beautiful phrasing, sound and swing are impressive. |
CD recommended by Mr. KondoRita Coolidge/and so is love Rita Coolidge(vo), Herb Alpert(tp), Bob Sheppard(as), Ronnie Cuber(bs), Russell Ferrante(p), Larry Koonse(g), Ralph Humphery(ds) Produced in 2005 KICJ-485 Released : 2005/6/8 Experienced singer, Rita Coolidge released a new acoustic album after a interval of 7 years. I like her urban style and elegant atmosphere. She sings jazz standard numbers emotionally in this album. Rita is very popular in Japan and has made a lot of Japan-only released album. I can feel her serious mind toward Jazz and I hope she will keep it in the future. |

I remember Rita's fascinating album which title was "Out Of The Blues"of 10 years ago. It was recorded in 1975 when she was getting popular and the release of this album was suspended. It is interesting that same type of album is released 30 years later when "Out Of The Blues" was released. Her alto voice is not so rich as it used to be but it makes her fans who remember her excellent voice evoke something. She is still energetic and restarts her career as a vocalist. We are looking forward to her music performance. |
