Swingin' Always/Mitsuaki KishiMitsuaki Kishi(p), Harry Allen(ts), Warren Vache(cor), Howard Alden(g), Joel Forbes(b), Dennis Mackrel(ds) Recorded in April 2005 NJ CMSB-28004 2005/6/20 released I heard that Japanese actor Takuya Fujioka is an enthusiastic fan of Mitsuaki Kishi. He is my favorite musician and I have most of his albums. His new album gives me luxury time. His theory " Jazz must swing" is embodied in this album and his active and swinging performance makes me excited. Harry Allen and Warren Vache who are swinging musician are placed front and their formation is changed variously by music and it makes this album very attractive . |

This album as a whole has funky performance of tasteful standard numbers, and some modern phrase are sprinkled with it. This is a smart album with swing and hard- bop mixed. Swinging Jazz like solo performance of Red Garland fills this album. A wide range of fans must be fascinated with this album. Warren Vache's excellent ballad performance on "Sunday, Monday, or Always" and Mitsuaki Kishi's piano performance modernly swinging with guitar by Howard Alden satisfied me. The sound quality is subject to the recording technique of each label. Mitsuaki Kishi tramsfered from BGM Fun House to Swing Bross. Sound volume is too gentle for jazz same as his previous album "Magical Jazz Café". I though more dynamic and vivid sound quality might be more suitable for jazz album. |
Midnight Waltz/Cedar WaltonCedar Walton(p), David Williams(b), Jimmy Cobb(ds) Recorded in March 2005 NY Released by Venus Records 2005.6.22 TKCV-35349 Cedar Walton has reached a master of Jazz Pianist and his best new album is now released. I heard that "Art Blakey and Messengers" formed sextet with three wind at front in 1961. The title number of renewed "Messengers" debut album "Mosaic" was written by Cedar. |

Cedar Walton is more moderate than the former Bobby Timmons ,but he was admired as a great composer because of amazing piano technique. His light, beautiful but powerful piano performance makes us feel better. This album shows his two incredible talent, one is great composer and another is jazz pianist. He selected 10 numbers among his past original by himself and he makes matured performance with his best friend Jimmy Cobb. He recreated himself and made a timely album. As to sound quality, high range of cymbal and bass are slightly raised because the sound pressure of his piano is rather high . Their harmonized sound are so cool. All the more, Venus 24 bit hyper magnum sound has great effect on this album. |
