CD recommended by Mr. Kondo Chihiro Nakayama/Outside by the Swing Chihiro Nakayama(p), Robert Hurst(b), Jeff "Tin" Watts(ds) Universal Jazz UCCJ-20402005/9/7 released Chihiro Nakayama is a talented Jazz pianist based in NY. Her three albums had been released by Jazz Label, Sawano Kobo in Naniwa ,Japan and each of them got great reviews and made high sales record. This is a major debut album performed with gorgeous Jazzmen after she transferred to Verve. Robert Hurst(b), Jeff "Tin" Watts(ds) who are famous for the member of Branford Marsalis Group join to form piano trio for this album. |

Chihiro Nakayama is a famous Jazz pianist who is also highly praised as composer and arranger in both Japan and overseas. She makes stunning performance from acknowledged original number to standard, pops, the roots of swing & modern Jazz , Yagibushi(Japanese folk song), etc. I was moved by her excellent play of Bud Powell number "The dream of Cleopatra" . She plays like sliding her fingers freely on the keyboard and I am inspired with her excellent piano technique. Distinguished arrangement and nice selection of music make this album more impressive. I was overwhelmed by powerful swing of this trio . The sound quality of recording is beautiful and excellent. The clear and pure sound by thrilling piano performance is accurately reproduced . |

CD recommended by Mr. Kondo Manhattan Trinity/Charade Cyrus Chestnut(p), George Mraz(b), Lewis Nash(ds) Recorded in August,2004 NY M & I Company MYCJ-30342 2005.9.21 released Manhattan Trinity has been my favorite trio and I have their albums "A Love Story" , "Love Letters" and "Alfie". I think that this trio has ideal style of Cyrus Chestnut which is formed trinity of deep swing by piano, bass and drums. |

This is a long-expected piano trio album produced by Manhattan Trinity. This album is suited for BGM and it is enjoyable to listen to their pure and clear sound. It seems difficult to play the famous numbers in this album by piano trio, however, their straight performance satisfies the listeners regardless of my concern. It is strange that famous pieces performed by great player make me feel refreshed even though they don't make any arrangement. Piano performance by Chestnut is well balanced. Drums by Nash and bass by Mraz are well controlled with beat and their balanced performance is comfortable. I am fascinated with their elegant play. |
