CD recommended by Mr. KondoToshio Osumi Trio "On The Road" Toshio Osumi (ds), Hideaki Yoshioka (p), Mitsuaki Furuno (b) Recorded at Tokyo in April, 2005 M&I Company MYCJ-30336 Released on June 15, 2005 It is an award-winning memorial record of Nanri Fumio Award of Toshio Osumi who has 30 years career as Japanese jazz drummer and is also a bandleader. The fourth album at M&I Company finishes in the splendid album that shows such Osumi music and the charms of drums fully. As for the members, a base is Mitsuaki Furuno the same as a previous work, but a piano is replaced to Hideaki Yoshioka. These two people are regular members of a current Osumi trio. |

It is not an exaggerate word if we say the techcnique of the positive pizzicato and beautiful arco created by Mitsuaki Furuno become a master-hand. First leader product "FULL NOTES" of 2001 was the good album which showed his ability without fail. Hideaki Yoshioka released the leader product "HERE WE GO" at the beginning of 90's. The second product "ANYTIME ANYWAY" of the next year was chosen by a gold disk of a SwingJournal magazine. Since then, he has been playing an active part on live stages and making albums. The trio is consisted of these 3 generations. Let listen to a familiar famous tune of a popular pianist by their performance with stability. (3) "All The Things You Are" is in a slow ballad, (6) "Black Orpheus" features a base, and in (9) "Night in Tunisia", this plays tasteful solo part and it develops jazz by mixing an ad lib. I want you to enjoy deeply the feeling of swing with a feeling of group of 3 while being relaxed here. I was very glad and also felt it is powerful even if I took you as the person who listens to that Osumi showed a way of leader ship with the sense of responsibility in spite of being the attitude of reserve as a tasteful rhythm key person very much. Sound quality adds the sound of drums created by Osumi, and it is built up without any room of total balance. A feeling of weight that has been pushed by a string of a base and an exquisite combination of rumbling is also in tiptop. |
CD recommended by Ms. CappccinoRay Barretto "Homage To Art-Blakey and The Jass Messengers" Ray Barretto (congas, perc), John Bailey (tp), Miguel Zenon (as), Lewis Perdomo (p), Hans Glawischnig (b), Vince Cherico (ds) Recorded at Brooklyn, NY on August 22-25, 2002 The reason why I knew the name of Ray Barretto is that he participated in the album of tenor sax player Lou Donaldson. I ordered it from "Jazz Shop Mimura" that is always taken care of, but was surprised to watch a jacket. Though I imagined he was a black gentleman it was a white gentleman. It may be held an image of light Latin sound when we say that one play conga and a percussion, but it is not so. He is making an album with solid sound. |

"United" It is very powerful from the earthy introduction. So as it is Ray and the quintet, but I get an illusion that it is a big band. "Noise In The Attic", It starts from rhythm section and then a horn section enters. An atmosphere changes by a cutting of base and drums, Ray's conga performance, through trumpet, to drums entirely. It follows with an alto saxophone to a piano. A feeling becomes very comfortable groove. "Buh's Bossa" Lee Morgan's work. Free solo performance by two trumpets with reliable rhythm band in back -- hearty piano performance -- heavy base. Drums lead them and go back first. Ray's conga fights with the quintet from beginning to end and does the seasoning that may cross each other. As an interesting thing is written in liner notes, I will quote it a little. "It is said a drum tell words. *snip* There is a person who thinks a drum is noisy. However, it is hardly to listen what the contents tell in comparison with a melody musical instrument. *snip* I know I can hear it if I open the ears." A large drum of "the Bon festival dance" that I was familiar with in the days of a child. A side drum of festival music. A sound of a drum affects "berry" and as a Japanese, I get excited. I do not understand how it is probably because the influence is left, but there is difference between drums, I like drums and percussions anyway. Would you like applying for this CD present that blows off low spirits.(^^) |
