CD recommended by Mr. KondoDiana Krall / "Christmas Songs" Diana Krall featuring the Clayton/Hamilton Orchestra Diana Krall (vo) Anthony Wilson (g) Russel Malone (g) Robert Hurst (b) John Clayton (b) Jeff Hamilton (ds) Stefon Harris (vib) Recorded in 2005 Universal Jazz UCCV-1083 Released on October 26, 2005 This new album really convinced me that Diana Krall is a singer who knows how to intoxicate the listeners. Diana Krall's Christmas album was released as a mini album before, but on this Christmas album backed by the Clayton/Hamilton Orchestra, Krall's gorgeous voice swings very well with the most enchanting rhythm of the strings and delivers a powerful swing of the body in a magical way. The lilting mood of the disc brings a joy of listening. |

The sound created by the Clayton/Hamilton Orchestra also results in an excellent comfort with its modern essence. If you want to feast on Krall's piano performance, you should then listen to "Winter Wonderland". As well as the wonderful voice, her storytelling piano performance is amazingly great. This is not only a Christmas album, but also an album fully expressing her charm from various angles, on which together with the big band's performance, she gets caught up in and develops her scat-singing into her nice vocals. And in some tunes she shows off her emotively singing performance, which makes her fans irresistibly excited. Although the titles in this album are supposedly Christmas songs, I recommend you to listen at any time of the year as a great jazz album. I was attracted both by the glamorous voice of Diana Krall and the fresh and rich scaled sound of the orchestration, and you can't help but being drawn into the really nice and melodious mood. |

This is a debut album of "Suite Voice", a female jazz chorus quartet who are said to admire The Manhattan Transfer. |

I've heard that "Suite Voice" started out as a group of four current members in 2000. As long as I listen to this album, their voices are so fresh and the harmony is very lilting and refreshingly beautiful. A uniquely sophisticated world is created only by women just overlapping the lovely voices of each member. Although each member's musical background is quite different, it seems to me that the album contains this elegantly varied choice of tunes by reflecting each other's style. Their pure and clear singing skills were found to be really exquisite beyond my imagination, and assure me of a real lilting, powerful and beautiful chorus group. I've got a very good impression about the group that they are full of gorgeousness for one thing and cheerfully exhilarating as well. I must say that the ending title "Christmas Gift" is a well-timed number for this season. I look forward to the promising breakthrough that "Suite Voice" would make for the days ahead. The pure sound that "Suite Voice" sing out rhythmically, can be heard comfortably in combination with a glamorous sound of piano touch elegant and shiny. |
