I have little time for music at home recently. I like jazz piano for music itself though.
The brass based music seems dominant in shops. Thanks to that, I became to like the saxophone-based music recently. So this week I looked for some speakers and power amps so that I can enjoy brass music the most.
	First of all, the originator! ALTEC A5!Being different from JBL, this item has excellent low-region and produces crisp sounds. The sound through the horn and driver on top of the speaker sinks into your brain without any pressure. And an amp going with this speaker is..
Let's dare to put it together with a transistor. It produces coarse sound a little bit, but it turns out kind of cool! You can directly feel the vibration that the tube of saxophone shakes. Especially it is excellent in low sound!
	The next item is ALTEC 620A, the co-axial master speaker whose horn has become low-profile(?). Well I know it's ALTEC again, but I don't care because they are good. Anyway, please listen to this. There is no surprise that this item has a good localization just like a co-axial speaker. The feeling of sound coming out is milder than that of A5, but on the other hand, there is a feeling of sound rushing at a burst. So it can be said that A5 has a momentum but 620A has a power. Mcintosh MC275 tube amp. It drives 620 with thick and hard sound which MC275 only can produce. It brings out more powerful feeling. You may find the benefit of a coaxial speaker by setting to express the mass feeling properly without skipping sound. You can also have a brighter and more refreshing image with MC240.
	Here is the last choice, YL-15 for the YL acoustic sound The oval shaped horn in a compact unit. Horn from top to bottom. Maybe it's too much of horn, but the sound is totally pleasant for sure. It has a primacy over ALTEC in tender and smooth expression. I bet you get addicted to the deep sound from this speaker if you listen to slow-paced tenor etc.
I picked marantz model15 for the power amp in consideration of the affordability. Although this is a transistor, it can produce thick sound and adequately pull out the warm tone particular to YL.
