If you don't have anything other than mini-component or line amp, you first need a phono-equalizer. The sound output from a record player's stylus is quite low compared to that from CD, so you need to use this. The phono-equalizer is necessary to turn up the output. This phono-equalizer is quite affordable for such persons. The sound quality is decent, so it is a best-buy for persons who would like to listen to some records right away in the meantime. For your information, the specification of the record stylus is MM.

Tokyo Sound PE-50, \29,000
This phono-equalizer supports MM (Moving magnet) type and MC (Moving coil) type cartridges. This is because the record stylus can be categorized roughly into two types. Most of cheapish cartridge is MM type and sort of expensive one is MC type. Since MM type is high-power and MC type is low-power, you will need a phono-equalizer supporting MC type. The good thing about this very convenient phono-equalizer is that you can switch-over easily. I recommend this item to persons who want to improve the analogue sound quality or just use the MC cartridge from the beginning. The sound quality feels kind of deep and also sharp. This phono-equalizer is well-balanced and not bad in sound-through. For more information, please visit ->http://www.tokyosound.co.jp/sound/index.html.

Shelter model 216, \65,000
This is also a phono-equalizer supporting both MM/MC type. It's user-friendly in switching-over and you just need a flip to switch-over. The power supply is also different from two adaptor types above. It adopts the 3P inlet method in which 100V can be directly input. As a result, you can use a ready-made power cable. I think you can enjoy the variation in sound quality by using your kind of cables. The sound quality is attractive with powerful firm output, and I think it is obviously the best among three. I felt that it picked up every signal from the stylus probably because the information volume was a lot and the density was high. This phono-equalizer is my best push price-wise. However, it may take a while to be delivered to you since Mr. Ozawa from Shelter produces it very carefully and doesn't mass produce.
