I went to see the lesson of Japanese traditional instrument "Shamisen" by Satoshiro Imafuji .
He is professional musician on both Nagauta shamisen and Tsugaru shamisen.
He performs Nagauta shamisenn for Kabuki and Tsugaru shamisenn for plays .

This is a backstage of the memorial concert for his father, Hosui Tsuboi in September 23 ,2004.
Mr. Tsuboi is checking program seriously. He has two names, one is Hosui Tsuboi for Tsugaru Shamisen and another one is Satoshiro Imafuji for Nagauta Syamisen.

Each Shamisen musicians played solo performance.
The tones were different by each player.
There were various kind of tone such as elgant,powerful, and sharp.I was moved by live shamisen performance.

This is the entrance of lesson room for Shamisen which he rents in a restaurant.

The name of restaurant is "Pumpkin Seed" and the master is a fan of Kabuki.

There are many Japanese Sake bottoles at the counter of the restaurant.

Satoshiro Imafuji is giving lesson of Shamisen.
There are three kinds of Shamisen. This Shamisen is "Hosozao" for Nagauta.
There are two kinds of Tsugarushamisen , one is "Futozao" and another one is "Chuzao".
Shamisen can be disassembled into three parts.
The score of Shamisen is different from that of western music.It is written by numbers and signs, not by notes.The handle of Shamisen is called "Sao" and the position of Sao is indicated by number in socore. There are no marks on Sao and it is difficult to press the position correctly.

This is man-to-man lesson of Shamisen.There are office ladies and businessmen who have lesson here after work.
I asked a young lady the reason why she learned Shamisen. She told that she was fascinated with the tone of Shamisen performed by Satoshiro Imafuji.

He is showing how to stretch a string of Shamisen.
He says ,"Totechin, Ten Ten" in teaching to play Shamisen.
This style seems to be his original way. In this way, people can play shamisen quickly.
