My audio and Jazz history The 26th episode, "Mclntosh control amp C46, Chapter 1: The separation from C40"by Kenji Kondo on August 5 I found the long-sought control amp "Mclntosh C46", which I have wanted so badly for so long, among the "Available existing items!!" on the website of Hi Fi Do on June 3rd. Besides it said the item is in "near mint-condition". As far as I confirmed on my PC screen, it was a quite beautiful C46. I said to myself "I want it most definitely" and at the same time I was calling Ohsu Main Store in Nagoya for a bargain. |

I couldn't resist against my "material greed" this time again. After a little while, C46 arrived in the living room of my house. In the afternoon on June 10th just right before the beginning of rainy season, my C46 was delivered from Nihonbashi Store in Osaka. I asked the delivery staffs to carry it up to the 3rd floor where the living room is located and I opened the box right away with reining in my impatience. I saw my long-awaited C46 finally with my own eyes. "Oh my god! This is really a knockout! Well it is in mint-condition."It didn't look like a used item. I could tell by just looking at the item in beautiful condition that the former owner was taking a very good care of this. |

Then I had to say good-bye to my C40 which was working for me very well for 5 years up to now. I lovingly and carefully took it out from the audio equipment rack. I hugged it tightly in my arms. Then I lovingly put it in a box saying to myself in my mind "You will still cut it in many places from now on. And I am pretty reassured because there are many audio equipment fans loving your features now." |

And the time has come. New C46 makes a full appearance. I took it out from the original box and put it on the rack. Then I deftly connected the CARDAS AC cable to it, RCA cable to DENON SA CD player "DCD-SA1" and XLR balance to MC500. Somehow my heart beat flutters and I felt pleasantly refreshed. |

Besides since both DENON SACD player "DCD-SA1" and C46 have excellent capabilities for the XLR balance feature, I thought "It would be a waste not to use this feature". Another DENON DCD-SA10 doesn't have the balance feature because it is a multi-CD player. This is why I expected a lot from DCD-SA1. Though I saw and heard about the specification of this C46 before at an audio equipment shop in Kyoto, there was something I was concerned about. That is a reversed phase. The XLR pin of C46 is the second HOT and that of DCD-SA1 is the third HOT. "This is not going to work." So I asked a manufacturer to convert the reversed phase and connect in order to match the polarities of the second and third HOT because I wanted to exploit the feature and capability of XLR balance cable. |
