My Audio and Jazz History The 29th episode: "McIntosh power amp MC602, Chapter 1 – Further joyfulness" By Kenji Kondo on August 26 It is the reality that even if I wish to get my favorite used audio equipment, I can rarely have a look at a new current model of it. But despite such preconception, the new model happens to arrive at the store at an unexpected time. I got a McIntosh control amp C46 in mint condition at Hi-Fi Do a while ago, and besides, I have experienced further joyfulness to own another current model. |

I happened to know that the sought-after MC602 had arrived when I was arranging with a salesperson about a delivery of the control amp C46 which I had previously purchased from Nihonbashi Store in Osaka. I told him as a joke, "Now that I have got the C46, I would like the power amp MC602 next!" Then surprisingly enough, he answered, "Just yesterday, the MC602 arrived at Nihonbashi Store." At that instant I thought I had misheard him. "Really? Has the MC602 arrived at your store?" I asked him in an unexpected loud voice. Instantly, my greedy desire has awaken and I said to myself in my mind, "I would like this by all means." |

To make sure, I checked the website. It says, "First release at our store! It's the current model!" with a photo of the MC602. I said to myself staring at the photo, "Really, it is the one. It's fairly pretty, no, it's in the very mint condition." Those two amps which I always wanted to obtain have consecutively arrived. I have just obtained one of them, control amp C46. "That's too early. I wish those items had arrived with a longer interval between them!" I thought like that, but I still made a quick decision, saying, "I want this power amp too absolutely. Here I go! I will buy it as if I had taken a leap in the dark." |

As early as next day, I contacted the salesperson and had the item put "under negotiations." Later on Thursday June 16, the MC602 was delivered to my house from Hi-Fi Do Nihonbashi Store by two staff members in charge. This MC602 is a super-heavy amp that weighs 70kg, which needs at least two men to lift. I have to carry it up to the listening room on the third floor. Can I really lift it upstairs? |
