My audio and jazz history The 31st episode "McIntosh power amp MC602 Chapter 3: Will it move me or not?" By Kenji Kondo on September 9 The MC-500 was taken over by the MC602, a flagship power amp of next new generation, which is a successor of the MC-500. Two Hi-Fi Do staff members took this new MC602 out of its original box and placed it on an audio board in the lowest shelf of an audio rack. "Indeed, this is tremendously big," I said to myself. Previously I had thought that the MC-500 was large-sized, but I felt the MC602 was one-rank larger than the MC-500. Besides, it has a super-weight of 70kg. |

This McIntosh power amp MC602 was borne as the highest model of McIntosh stereo power amps being approved by many audio reference materials, when next new generation digital audio equipment started to have wide range. Does it move you or not? A variety of audio brands have been unveiled with a catch copy of new technology for more than 50 years since the McIntosh brand was created. The MC602 was borne as the highest model of McIntosh stereo power amps as a result of their sincere dedication to music and of their verification of technology and design in the course. Due to its double-balance circuit for reducing distortion, the MC-602 succeeded especially in reducing the harsh third-phase high frequency distortion. |

In spite of its large-scale output of 600W x 600W, the MC602 does not deteriorate the signal-to-noise ratio in the listening room because its four large-sized heat sinks cool the heat emitting from the power transistor by natural air cooling alone. This is the MC602's counterevidence that it can play back such sensitive tones. As the base of widening of range and speeding up of digital audio equipment, the power supply circuit has been increasing its importance. The MC602 has sought the superlative quality in both aspects of parts and circuits. This is reflected on a fact that the maximum noise is reduced to 0.005% or below in all the range with a load of two to eight ohms in combination of a balance amp and output transformer. The MC602 has achieved such a level of noise reduction as is almost below measurement capability. (The photo is quoted from the past database.) |

The MC602 has succeeded the following core technology of the McIntosh from the previous models: The double-balance circuit fundamentally reduces distortion; The output auto-format supplies voluminous electric current even with a low load; The power supply unit supports the wide dynamic range; A variety of protective circuits are installed. When its traditional power meter "Blue Eyes" and green illumination on the black glass panel were lit, I was moved by jazz sound that was filling my listening room gently. |
