My audio and jazz history, The 39th episode, " KIMBER KABLE PK-14Gold: Part 3 – Chemistry", by Kenji Kondo on November 4

Since I like the colorless and straightforward sound quality that PK-14Gold the popular and wonderful high-cost performance cable can offer, I am using it for McIntosh control amp C46 regularly now.

And, I found PK-14Gold recently on the Hi Fi Do web site. I contacted Hi Fi Do immediately and I decided to buy it right after I heard that the product was only used for like 6 months. I bought that pretty new PK-14G for SACD player. Because I totally fell in love with more stand-up power for jazz, the ability to reproduce the low and mid pitched sound soundly deep and the highly clear sound quality through the control amp C46. Besides I also thought about trying the reproducibility of higher sound quality with SACD player.

PK-14G which I am using now for plug is the AC plug designed for luxury audio system and WATTaGATE-330 and 350 for IEC connector. This WATTaGATE-330 I bought at Hi Fi Do is, however, 330i and 350i the advanced WATTaGATE plug and connector according to Hi Fi Do. I thought that they upgraded the performance since I found the letter "i" on the plug and connector. And I was very excited to compare the sound quality between the old model and the new model. Anyway I connected PK-14G I bought at Hi Fi Do to SACD player DENON DCD-SA1 right away for tryout listening.

The album I listened to is "Outside By The Swing/Chihiro Nakayama" UCCJ-2040. As soon as I heard the sound, I was like "uh-oh". There was no extending mid-and high-range feel from piano played by Chihiro Nakayama and somehow the clear feel was missing. Beyond that, the low range feel in the bass was quite too much or too little. I felt like I was tricked. I was like "this isn't right" and immediately removing it from the tap. I was pretty disappointed thinking like "maybe PK-14G doesn't go along with SACD player" for a while. But I collected myself and decided to try out more with others.
