My audio and jazz history, The 41st episode, " KIMBER KABLE PK-14Gold: Part 5 – Incoming and outgoing", by Kenji Kondo on November 18 I was like "Shazzam" and turned it on after I confirmed that the connector reached to the insertion slot of the amp in the slightest touch (IEC connector was floating). The power seemed on, so I had it make sound as a test. |

The new album I listened to was "Charade/Manhattan Trinity" MYCJ-30342. The high range feel was so-so but something was missing in the low range feel for the power amp. It managed to make refreshing sounds for Cyrus Chestnut's piano but didn't have any texture in tone at all for George Mraz's base and Lewis Nash's drum. I knew it was not suitable to the power amp. I can see well that the texture of the swing and uplifting feel of jazz dwells here, since the resolution is pretty high with a deep and thick texture even though its sound quality is quite neutral and holds the highly-pure and flat energy like CARDAS Golden Reflerence AC that I currently use. As expected here too, CARDAS Golden Reflerence AC seems the best match for the power amp so far. I also tried my hope PK-14G with the power amp though, the result was not good. |

My last hope was the control amp. But I was convinced that "there would be no change in texture itself that much" since I was using the same PK-14G of the old WATTaGATE connector plug type for the control amp at that moment. But you never know your luck. I tried PK-14G of the new plug type that I bought from Hi Fi Do. To my surprise, I got totally impressed by the sound as soon as the sound came out. I was listening to the sounds for a while being stunned by its amazing reproducibility. I couldn't believe it and I was like "this is the same PK-14G?" The reproducibility is fast, accurate and excellent in realism. The delicate afterglow of piano touch and the sound felt so deep, and the low range of the base felt firm and deeper. What a clear and excellent reproducibility! Moreover, its sound pressure rises, its strongly damping high S/N stretch is excellent, and the cymbal sound is more delicate and clear with high SN. This is wonderful. It's like the sound dominantly tears up the sound field space thrilling me. |

"Well.." This is definitely good. I heard that a plug connector of PK-14G got upgraded though, it was hard to believe that the same PK-14G realized the high sound quality (my kind of sound) this much. Again I admire the high quality of evolving KIMBER KABLE. (This specification change is worth it.) After confirmed this sound quality just in front of me, I had no other choice than PK-14G that I bought from Hi Fi Do. I felt sad to stop using the old type PK-14G that I regularly used until now. But the audio technology should be constantly advancing. So it's totally natural to replace the old with the new in order for evolution. I just wish the technology keeps developing for audiophiles. |
