My audio and jazz history, The 45th episode, "That's why I can't quit being a audiophile!" part 3, by Kenji Kondo on December 16 As it's been always said, JBL4344 38cm woofer is heavy and seems not to work at its best unless the combining power amp is quite good quality. However, that heavy low range feeling turned into the firm, responsive and speedy low range feeling with high-resolution. Since the super-tweeter (UT-405) has been added up, the high range feeling creates the reproducibility well to satisfy the SACD and DVD generation of today.

There are something about the vast dynamic range feeling in the ear as if the faucet were fully turned on and as the information volume increases more than double for each memory the control amp volume goes up and the high-density and repletion flooding the entire range with the energetic resolution. It is magnificent in the large-scale feeling and excellent in the dynamic feeling from the bass, the sharp piano sound, the quick attack of drum, each high response, the speedy feeling, the high and low range feeling and the reproducibility as if the music were played just in front of you. Above all, I was being overwhelmed by the well-organized and massive bass sounds of which sound image was sort of coming forward. Sound-wise, there seems no band where becomes less dense. And here again it expresses the dry and unconstrained feature, unique to JBL, which is the asset of the original large-scale monitor series. I thought this large-scale equipment would attract even persons who listen to music at low volume.

The new 4348 is also attractive to me though, I had to rediscover the high potential ability of this superb 4344MK2. It has a comfortable sense of a bit high temperature that my ears can catch and the information volume coming one after the other. S/N was also high and the sound quality seemed to have been reinforced in 3D, and the resolution in low-mid range was high. Audio-wise it seemed to have become more attractive with a highly pure and high-speed response. Also, the dynamic range was wide through the entire wideband, and its reproducibility was excellent. I felt pretty much the overwhelming sound pressure feeling as if it were shaking the floor. And when I finished listening I was overwhelmed and felt happy enough to whoop like "YAY". Then I felt comfortable fatigue afterward. This huge volume of information and massive feeling are the highest expression that I've ever known. It's like the entire range expands smoothly. The space expression becomes a size bigger all around making you feel so comfortable. As I expected, the sound independence and each particle in the entire range were excellent and I felt each particle of sound was full of energy. Rita Coolidge's vocal made me admire Mclntosh once again as well as the best matched JBL for the sensation as if I were in a box seat in the concert hall and the advanced realism for her facial expression, lips and way of breathing as if she were singing just in front of me.
