Quiz 1: This scenery is similar to that of Kusasenri in Aso. A lake seen in the back of the grass farm has something in common with Lake Akan-ko in Hokkaido. What is the creature which inhabits only in these two lakes in the whole world? Answer: Aegagropila Comment by the applicants: "If the answer is aegagropila, I think it is confirmed that this inhabits in more places." You are right! Though aegagropila is a rare creature, it was wrong to say, "…which inhabits only in these two lakes in the whole world." Aegagropila is said to inhabit in cold areas of the Northern Hemisphere. Lake Kawaguchi-ko in Japan is the southernmost lake in which aegagropila inhabits. The name of the lake on the photo is Lake Myvatn. |

Ninomiya visited a country in a cold climate of the Northern Hemisphere. You can guess by looking at the photo how it was cold. I heard it snowed earlier than usual, but I had never expected that I could walk on the fresh snow in the middle of September. |

In this country where geothermal power generation is disseminated, the most famous hot spring is the Blue Lagoon. This is a large hot spring which squirts hot water that was used for geothermal power generation. Shown on the photo is the Green Lagoon, which was opened later than the Blue Lagoon. You can soak yourself in the hot water wearing a swimsuit. It seems to be rather a hot-water swimming pool than a hot spring. |

Since this country is full of hot springs and water, electricity is cheap, while prices in general are expensive! I found out a shop like a Japanese "100 yen shop(1 dollar shop)". This shop is a "200 kroner shop". One krone equals 1.76 yen (as of September in 2005), so all items are sold at a price equivalent to 350 yen. |
