My treasure, EMT accident! (ongoing still now) Final episode, by short Foot And, there is a trouble with 139 as well.. I found out that one of four Counterpoint selected of 6DJ8 the vacuum tube was not genuine while looking at them after disassembly. I was shocked a lot since I was obsessed about genuine and specialized parts. |
But how come it is 7DJ8? (That's quite strange.) Anyway I splurged on two 6DJ8-EI Elite Gold Premium matched pairs from BOI AudioWorks to replace it. It's been about 1 week during this time. I tested the sound. But it didn't make any sound at all. I was like ^_^;)? After a while, I opened it and found the cracked replacement bulb of problematic 7DJ8. I stunned pause. I called the middle-aged radio expert for diagnosis. He said to me "This part got heated abnormality, you know." as if it were nothing. According to him, it is innocuous to let 7DJ8 be inserted as it is. Well it is made by Matsushita and then I cannot use the powerful computer selected low noise tube. hmmmm. Well okay, I guess! |
I wonder if it makes sounds for real. I was pretty exhausted. Anyway I will be getting nervous more and more while I wait for troublesome EMT929/Thorens. What kind of sound (sound I dreamed) comes out from the counterpoint here? Anyway I bet everything on this point. Finally I brought my audio system set in my office. I put the Dynavector DV507 with Thorens MCH2 on the YAMAHA YP-1000 at the entrance, and QUAD606 and Rogers LS 3/5A 15Ω at the exit. |

Here comes the sound! The basic criteria are cleared properly. I felt as if I were Mozart's father(j/k). However there is no point = freshness enough to directly connect to the power. Is there any reading mistake of this phono-equalizer looking like it is from the Looking-Glass country (RL terminals are opposite)? Ah-ha! The scratch filter is set at maximum. This is it! Then I set it to the minimum at a burst. My brain fog got clear off at a time. "Phew" I signed for no special reason. After I went home, I tried various things on the bigger equipment; I made it to get some leads. |
The rest is EMT929/Thorens & 124. The thing I still don't understand is the socket part at the end. Probably the socket holder(?) was in the cabinet. Anyway unless the arm lead is bared, it will get the impact from the torsion moment of phono-cable with an unbelievably hard characteristic. Its thin lead will snap easily unless it is properly fixed with something. After I bothered my brain a lot, I ordered the specialized socket holder from vcyoyo this time again. TSD15, which should be genuine, is too heavy for the arm weight of 160g. After many tries, I determined the weight of 130g and ordered it from again vcyoyo. And furthermore I was too goofy to test the continuity. As expected, the arm lead snapped. When I tried to adjust the bearing part of the arm, the bearing of less than 1mm started to spill out. Arghhhhh! When can I get out of my goofy life? And the picture shows exactly as it is right now. (^_^;) Currently I am waiting for the specialized socket holder and the arm weight. |

How frightening the (analogue) audio world is. I want to get out of this devildom as quickly as possible and return to the normal middle-aged men's world. This is what I wish for the most these days. "EMT accident" is still ongoing. Please read the next issue (to be determined) for a full account of this story. The more it becomes strange, the more I go crazy...(^_^) (to be continued?)(^_^) |
