Irregular issue, "Walking around Akihabara", the 79th episode by Akibataro When I disassembled the amp I have been working on since the last time, I found the chassis were full of holes. I thought it would be quite tough to modify this into a tube amp. Mr. U suggested me to make a power transformer part in another chassis since it looked like the power transformer wouldn't fit in. I thought it was a pretty good idea and went ahead with that idea. When I checked the volume, the original volume part was double-barreled and was making noises. So I decided to use the single-barreled 50KHZ "A" curved one. I found the one I liked while I was walking around in Akihabara. |

Since the knob on the volume is too long, I cut part of it with a saw by sandwiching it by a vise. At first Mr. U was supposed to cut, but he told me it would take quite a lot of time just to cut it with a saw. I asked why, and then he answered that since he doesn't have a vise, it takes him much longer to cut and he won't be able to cut perfectly by fixing just with hands. It took me a lot of time to work even on a little thing and I couldn't work the way I wanted until I got all the necessary tools. It's not that easy to just get an electric drill and a holesaw to attach to it to just make a single amp. The amp manufacturers are expected to have these tools though. And it could be a challenge for amateur amp makers to just make a hole of 30mm. To make a hole on a 2mm-thick steel plate is totally touch unlike a wooded board. But I am going to accomplish to complete this amp at any cost. (To be continued to next week) |
