Irregular issue "Walking around Akihabara" The 80th episode by Akibataro When I woke up in the morning and turned on the switch of my audio equipment, I heard an unusual harsh noise from it. So I turned it off right away and woke up completely at once. I did not know what on earth was wrong with it and decided to exchange the 6V6 tubes at first anyway. When I turned it on, the same harsh noise came again. Then I exchanged the 5Y3 tubes related to clear sound this time, but the result was the same. When I was about to bring it to Hi-Fi Do for repair, a friend of mine just called me and I told him about the condition of my amp over the phone. He suggested that I exchange two 6SN7 tubes in its front line with the new ones so that the trouble might disappear. So I exchanged them immediately and as a result the harsh noise stopped. Although the original tubes attached on the amp had been brand-new ones, do vacuum tubes get broken in a year or so? When I shook several tubes at hand one by one, some of them gave small click sound from inside. I tried inserting them in my amp for tryout listening, but there was no problem. However, I think it better to use those tubes which do not give any sound when they are shaken. If you know much more about it, please contact me. I show you photos below of the amp I disassembled last time. |

The first photo shows the power transformer and the second shows the body of the amp. Since Mr. U reiterated technical terms, it was nearly impossible for me to understand what he said. But the amp was being accomplished little by little and it encouraged me. Though I am not sure if the amp will finally be accomplished, please do look forward to its finish. |
