今回も「ATLANTIC」レーベルについて述べます。
「ATLANTIC」レーベルは歴史のあるレーベルだけにそのカタログは多岐にわたり、結構な枚数を有している。所属のアーティストの中には、「モダン・ジャズ・カルテット」の他、先の「レニー・トリスターノ」、「テディー・チャールス」や「チャーリー・ミンガス」、「ジョン・コルトレーン」等々が吹き込みをしている。
それに加えて新しい時代の「チャールス・ロイド」、「オーネット・コールマン」等の意欲的なレコーディングを行っている。　又、「クリス・コナー」や「パティー・マクガヴァン」の「ボーカル」もどれもが人気盤になっているのも特記ものだ。他に「レイ・チャールス」等の「リズム＆ブルース」ほか多様なジャンルのエンターティナーを抱えていたのだ。

1600番台のリストは次回述べるが、今回はこの時代の推移の中で、センター・ラベルの変遷を述べる。

上記は「1237 Charles Mingus - Pithecanthropus Erectus」　前回、紹介した「黒ラベル」の溝有りの時期は1959年の頃までと考えれる。確認できているものに、「1311 John Coltrane - Giant Steps」「1314 Dick Katz - Piano And Pen」「1329 Billy Taylor - One For Fun」がある。これらも「黒ラベル」の溝ありで、MONO盤になっている。この録音は1956年6月。このように1959年の終わり頃に「黒ラベル」が無くなると考えられる。 NO.的には　「1340番」前後と思われる。


そのあと、 1354 John Coltrane - Coltrane Jazz のラベルは「MONO盤」が「紫/赤・ラベル」になり、「STEREO盤」が「緑/青」ラベルになる。又この頃になると「STEREO」盤は「SD XXXX」の番号表示になっていく。 1354 John Coltrane - Coltrane Jazz 1361 John Coltrane - My Favorite Things も、「MONO盤」は「紫/赤・ラベル」で「SD …」の表示はない。


1435 The Max Roach Trio Featuring The Legendary Hasaan も「MONO盤」は「紫/赤・ラベル」。 1467 Max Roach - Drums Unlimited も「MONO盤」は「紫/赤・ラベル」。「STEREO盤」は「緑/青・ラベル」になり、「SD XXXX」の番号表示になっていく。
このように、溝ありの「黒ラベル」から、MONOは「紫/赤・ラベル」になる。このラベルでは基本的に溝が無くなる。タイプ的には「キャピトル・プレス」に近い。　「STEREO盤」は1958年頃から出現すると考えられるが、ラベルは「緑/青・ラベル」になる。　それと、「SDXXX」ガ全面的に表記されるのが「1500番」から。この時代は「STEREO盤」がメインとなってくるものと考えれる。
次回は「黒ラベル」の再発ラベルや後期の「STEREO」盤のラベル、再発ラベルについて述べます。
今回の「今週の推奨盤」　　今回は上記の「ATLANTIC」盤のMONO盤です。名門のレーベルのサウンドを聴いてみてください。　「BLUE NOTE」や「PRESTIGE」とは又違ったサウンドだ。「ウエスト・コースト」とも違った音造りだ。
