Kaitai Shinsho vol.14 SME tone arm 3009 Description Kenji Kondo and Hiroyuki Satake, photography Hiroyuki Satake. SME is the company in Britain which started from precision model manufacture from the first. The expert of the precision work technology which was the president of SME, and Mr. Eyeckman completed the original and epoch-making tone arm, and they decided on general sale in 1959. The first tone arm was long type 3012. The wonderfulness of 3012 is having produced such epoch-making contents commercially by beautiful industrial design and finish. This arm had strong influence on almost all the Japanese tone arm maker. Soon Rateral balancer and inside force canceller was attached. Generally a player case enlarges a long type. Then, 3009 models of short size were put on the market. (Kondo)

Ortofon MC20 was covered by vol.12, DENON DL-103 was covered by vol.13, and the cartridge was taken up two times. The existence which cannot be removed is a tone arm. Since a tone arm is existence like the right hand of a cartridge, it is usually rarer than a cartridge to become the center of attention, and the person that has many tone arms is minority groups.
